In 1998, building, demolition and subdivision control were incorporated into the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. At that time the Department of Planning produced a hard-copy guide to the new legislation, entitled Guiding Development: Better Outcomes. The guide comprised a number of practice notes on specific issues. Whilst some of the information contained in the practice notes is now outdated because of legislative change, the practice notes contain useful general information on planning and building processes. Some of the practice notes that relate to certification are available to view via this website (see below). Disclaimer The following practice notes are provided for general information only. They do not constitute legal advice. The Department of Planning and the Building Professionals Board disclaim all responsibility and all liability (including without limitation, liability in negligence) for all expenses, losses, damages and costs which you might incur as a result of the information being inaccurate or incomplete in any way and for any reason. If clarification is needed relating to information in the practice notes, please call the Board on (02) 9895 5950 or the Department's Planning Reform Unit on (02) 9228 6423. I agree to and accept the above conditions. If you do not understand the conditions please contact the Board on the telephone numbers above.
