Commencement of certain provisions of the EP&A Amendment Act and Building Professionals Amendment Act

The Environment Planning and Assessment Amendment Act 2008 and the Building Professionals Amendment Act 2008 ("the Amendment Acts") were assented to on 25 June 2008. Together with other matters, the Amendment Acts introduce significant changes to the planning and certification system in NSW.

The provisions in the Amendment Acts will be commenced in stages over the next 12 months as necessary regulations, guidelines and changes to the Board's accreditation scheme are prepared.

Some changes, where supporting regulations are not needed, will commence on 1 August 2008. The Department has prepared a Circular which outlines the provisions commencing on 1 August 2008. more >>

Accreditation exam for applicants

From 23 April 2008, the Board introduced a fee of $330.00 for applicants who wish to complete the Board's accreditation exam to demonstrate they meet the core requirements under the accreditation scheme. The exam must also now be undertaken before you submit an application for accreditation. more >>

Accredited certifiers - mandatory CPD course on Risk Management

The Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (NSW Chapter) is offering the Building Professional Board's Accredited Certifiers: Professional Practice course for 2008. The course is 1/2 day on Risk Management.

The course is mandatory for all accredited certifiers. If you do not complete the course this year, YOU WILL NOT HAVE YOUR ACCREDITATION RENEWED IN 2009.

Improving the NSW planning system - planning reforms pass upper house

The Building Professionals Board recently published two information brochures to provide consumers with greater information about how the NSW certification system works:

Certifying building and subdivision work - This information brochure informs consumers of the general approvals process involved when building or subdividing.

Choosing a certifying authority - This information brochure provides consumers with the information necessary to enable them to confidently choose a certifying authority. The brochure outlines the services that certifying authorities provide to the consumer, options for the selection of certifying authorities, how to appoint a certifier and other important information.

Annual Report 2006/07

The Building Professionals Board has published an annual report for the 2006/07 financial year which is included within the Department of Planning Annual Report.

Legislative Requirements

The Board has held sessions for the first compulsory continuing professional development (CPD) course required under the accreditation scheme. The course, Accredited Certifiers: Legislative Requirements 2007, has been offered on a number of occassions around the state from late April, with the last session held in early August this year.

If you are an accredited certifier and have not completed the course, contact the Board immediately as failure to attend will prevent renewal of accreditation.
